BOOK DESCRIPTION: Harambee! Kwanzaa Family Guide was born out of a collective effort to inspire Black family interest in Kwanzaa, to increase Black family participation and commitment to a rich and powerful cultural holiday and contribute to the rebuilding and enrichment of our great heritage.
Our families offer this guide as a product of our collective work and responsibility. We have labored to produce a model for other Black people to embrace and extend through cultural practice and celebration. We offer this guide as a tool to assist our readers in incorporating the Nguzo Saba into their daily lives.
Kwanzaa is a Cultural, Community and Family Celebration. It is a celebration of harvest and rebirth. Our people in the United States have produced tremendous First Fruit harvests since our arrival in the 17th century. We have quietly and subtly acknowledged our traditions often hiding our cultural practices. We give thanks and praise to Maulana Karenga for bringing manifest our cultural celebration and African traditions through Kwanzaa in the 20th century to present.
